Sarah Seini
Sarah Seini was born in 1998 in Bochum and is a queer emerging artist of Nigerien and Polish descent based in Berlin. Her work is rooted in theatre and expands into the fields of costume design, performance, and sculptural textile design. She studied costume design at the Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK), completed an exchange semester at the École nationale supérieure des arts et techniques du théâtre (ENSATT) in Lyon, and is currently finalizing her Master’s degree in Costume Design at the UdK Berlin.
Sarah has worked in film, theatre, and performance productions as a costume and set designer.
Her artistic practice focuses on intersectional identities, postcolonial aesthetics, and queerness. Her interdisciplinary work spans sculptural textile design, the archiving of memories, video projection, and the combination of aesthetics of alienation, distortion, and beauty.
In her work, she questions normative regimes of the gaze and Eurocentric modes of perception by bringing together seemingly contradictory cultural, social, and historical codes.
In addition, Sarah has worked as an artistic director for two performance productions. She also engages with queer experimental performance formats, particularly in the context of drag shows and their expansion as artistic and research-based practices.
